Therapy for Anxiety & Panic – Don’t Worry, Help is at Hand

Everyone feels worried from time to time – it’s quite normal! Clinical anxiety is different, in that the worry lasts longer, can feel all-consuming, and sometimes seems to go from one subject to the next. Panic attacks can be a common symptom of anxiety. Fortunately, anxiety and panic are highly treatable, and getting effective evidence-based treatment is essential. So let’s take a look at anxiety and panic in order to understand how it develops and how we can treat it.

How Common is Anxiety?

Anxiety is one of the most common challenges facing our population today. Studies estimate as many as 1 in 3 of us will feel clinical levels of anxiety in our lifetime, and is something I treat people for very often.

Symptoms of Anxiety:

  • Feeling nauseous
  • Tension headaches
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Restlessness
  • Butterflies
  • Light headedness and dizziness
  • Tense muscles in the jaw or neck
  • Feeling on edge or nervous
  • Experiencing a sense of dread
  • A racing mind
  • Feeling like you’re standing outside of your body – detached from yourself
  • Thinking you’re having a heart attack
  • Thinking that everyone can see that you’re sweating
  • Worrying about worrying
  • Being unable to concentrate on a book

Treatment Approaches

I have a specialist interest in working with anxiety and have successfully treated many people. My training budhaallows me to provide you with the latest evidence-based treatments. As a clinical psychologist I am different from single therapy trained professionals. I am trained in a number of different approaches, which is essential because one size treatment does not fit all – your anxiety will be very different from someone else’s. The approaches I use are recognised to be as effective as medication, and, unlike medication, we will get to the root cause so that you can feel real progress. Treatments that I use include CBT, Mindfulness, CAT, Narrative Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches.

If you have any particular approaches in mind, just let me know and we can explore it further.
